“Between Stewardship and Exploitation”: A Perspectives Piece

I am happy to announce that the issue of RCC: Perspectives, “Environmental Knowledge, Environmental Politics: Case Studies from Canada and Western Europe,” edited by Jonathan Clapperton and Liza Piper is now out. Many of the articles in this volume are products of the Carson Center and NiCHE sponsored workshop, “Environmentalism from Below,” held at University of Alberta in August 2014.

My article, “Between Stewardship and Exploitation: Private Tourism, State Parks, and Environmentalism,” is largely based on a battle surrounding the construction of a lodge in Cook Forest State Park in the late 1990s. My mother actually threw away the articles that dealt with this episode several years ago, and I had her dig them out of the trash just in time to save them!
